Q-Tip Dart Game Kids Activity

Have your kids told you “I’m Bored!” for the millionth time yet?  With the new baby there is a lot of stuff going on around here but sometimes I really need my two older boys to play nice and fend for themselves a little bit so Momma can take a breather!  I have tons of tricks to keep my small people occupied and I am super excited to share this Q-Tip Dart Game with you today!  Not to fear…the darts will not harm anyone or anything! :)

I picked up all my supplies at my local Dollar Tree.   OK so I had the Great Value straws already on hand but you get the idea!  (They sell straws at the Dollar Tree also!)  In most cases, you can use things you already have around the house!  These are things we can always improvise on supplies!

Supplies needed:

• 3 small tins, buckets or baskets
• Small Die Cut Numbers
• Q-Tips
• Drinking straws
• tape

Have the kids go on a hunt for the supplies…it will keep them busy!  {wink}

I started out by letting my son punch out the numbers to make a 10, 20 and 30 point label from these foil die cuts.  I picked these up in the crafts/teaching supply section of the dollar store!

I secured the numbers to the three bins that I picked up using some tape.  You could also use vinyl and an electronic cutting machine but I wanted to make sure to show a way to make these so that anyone could make them, even without a cutting machine!  No die cut numbers, no problem…paper and marker work just as well!

Next you just need your “darts” and “shooters” which happen to be Q-Tips and Straws!  I told you this was easy!

Simply place the Q-tip right inside the straw on the non-bendy end and your dart is loaded!

I lined up the bins and to make it a bit more interesting I just placed some small containers under them so they stagger in height.  This is totally optional and also the containers I picked up at the dollar store also for another project :)

Next give the kids a line to stand behind.  Sidewalk chalk works great if you are outdoors or a crack in the sidewalk or patio or put a hula hoop down and they have to stand inside that circle to shoot from.  A simple washi tape line works for indoors. Have them blow their darts and see how many they can get in the bins!

This keeps my boys entertained for good amount of time!  Great thing is that this activity can be played when it’s sunny or indoors when it’s rainy out.  I always crack this out when it starts to rain and my kids are tired of play-doh and coloring!
