Lucky Charm Crispy Treat Ingredients:
- Lucky Charms Cereal – the true star of the show! Grab a box of these Magically Delicious pieces of cereal and marshmallows!
- Butter – everything is better with butter! You can use salted or unsalted butter. Yep, you read that correctly! I actually prefer salted butter for these. It’s the perfect amount to counter the sweetness!
- Mini Marshmallows – I like to use mini vs large marshmallows because they melt quicker and more evenly.
Kitchen Gadgets You Will Need:
- 9 x 13 baking pan (glass or metal works great!)
- Large Pot that can go on the stovetop, nonstick is best.
- Mixing spoon or spatula
- Parchment paper
- Measuring Cup
How to Make Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats
In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter. Keep a watchful eye, you don’t want to burn the butter! Once the butter is melted, add your mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted!
Next, you will remove the pot from the heat and add the Lucky Charm cereal. Gently fold the cereal into the marshmallow mixture. You want to stir until all the cereal pieces are covered but do not overmix.
Spray your 9 x 13 baking dish with some non-stick cooking spray. Then you will pour the cereal mixture into the baking dish and spread evenly.
Tips for Spreading the Lucky Charms Marshmallow Mixture
- Use buttered fingers. Wash your hands and add some butter to your fingertips as you press the mixture into the baking dish. Reapply butter as needed. <– There’s a sentence I never expected to say, lol. This method works well.
- Piggybacking on the above, you can also use the wrapper of the stick of butter to press the mixture.
- Use parchment or waxed paper to press into place.
Once you get the mixture spread evenly in your dish, let it set for about an hour on the countertop at room temperature. Don’t try to speed up this process in the refrigerator unless you want very hard and crunchy bars vs soft ooey gooey bars.
Once it is cool, you can slice it into approximately 15 squares! You can also cut down the center, longways, and then in skinnier bars across. I like options!
Alternate Options for Lucky Charms Cereal Bars
You know I like options! The first option is to add more marshmallows! Not the white ones but the lucky charm option! Did you know you can purchase Lucky Charm Marshmallows by themselves? You sure can! Add an extra cup to the cereal mixture in the recipe above!
The second option is to add a white chocolate drizzle to the tops of the cereal treat bars. Melt some melting chocolates in a plastic bag, snip the corner of the bag and drizzle over top. Allow to cool and slice as directed above.
The third option is vanilla extract. Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract to add a rich flavor layer!
FAQS
Yes! These treats will be stored at room temperature in an air-tight container for up to a week. For absolute freshness, I recommend making no more than a day ahead!
If you have any left, you can store these treats in an airtight container on the counter for up to a week.
I do not recommend it. The cold atmosphere changes the structure of the sugars and cereal itself and produces hard, crunchy, and dry treat bars.
Yes! Once the treats are set/cooled, you can slice and add a bar to a plastic bag and tie the top with some cute ribbon for a fun treat idea! Once set the bars are not too sticky and will not stick to the bags.
