If you are a “no talkie before coffee” kind of person, these awesome Grinch Coffee Mugs are perfect for you! Hot Tea and Hot Chocolate lovers…there’s some Grinch love for you too!
One side of the mug is the adorable Grinch face and on the other side is the wording making a delightful funny saying coffee mug! This would be perfect for when you need a small gift idea! You can dress it too and include some of your favorite coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
I know not everyone is a coffee lover {gasp!] so I also made a cut file for Tea Lovers and even one with hot chocolate (not pictured) with my kids in mind. They love hot chocolate, love drinking out of mugs like I do, and love The Grinch!
Supplies Needed for Grinch Coffee Mugs:
- Green Coffee Mugs
- Silhouette Cameo or Cricut machine
- Black Vinyl
- Yellow Vinyl (scrap will be great!)
- Transfer Paper
- Cricut Toolkit
- Rubbing Alcohol**
**To get the best adhesion across the vinyl and the mug, it is recommended to clean the outside area where you are placing vinyl with rubbing alcohol! It does make a difference! You can find my detailed post on How to Correctly Apply Craft Vinyl here.

How to make a Grinch Coffee Mug:
I cut my vinyl using my Cricut Explore Air. Black vinyl for the Grinch Face and words and yellow for the eyes. The eyes are optional, totally up to you! Here is how I layered my vinyl.
Start out by using the hook and weeding away all the extra vinyl around your words and design.
Don’t forget to get the inside of the eyes and the inside of the loop letters like h and e’s!
Next, we are going to put our Grinch face onto some transfer paper. Transfer paper is either clear or white with grid lines on it. The clear is my personal favorite for layering! Put the transfer paper on top of your design, sticky side down and use the scraper to smooth the transfer paper over your design.
Peel back the paper backing off your original vinyl design to leave the black vinyl on the transfer paper only.
Next, you will line up your black design on top of the yellow eyes. This is where the clear transfer paper comes in so handy! Once you have your design lined up, use the scraper and smooth again.
Now peel off the backing of the yellow vinyl and you are left with your complete design ready to apply to your blank coffee mug!
Center your transfer paper on your mug and using your fingers, smooth the vinyl on to the mug. Remove the transfer paper!
Do the same process with your wording! You can find the Grinch Face Cut Files here.

Stephanie Summers says
will these last? or will the vinyl eventually come off…
Cheryl Spangenberg says
Hi Stephanie!
It depends on a few things. 1. How well you clean your surface before applying the vinyl 2. The texture/smoothness of your surface and 3. What type of vinyl you use. I recommend Oracle 631 or even 651 (outdoor vinyl) for the best results. Other vinyls I have found to not stick well at all. I also hand wash mine for the most part but do put in the top rack because you know after a while it just needs a good dishwasher washing! :) I do have some water bottles and wine glasses that I only dishwasher wash made and still going strong for years! I hope that helps!

Do you have to put anything over the lettering after you put it on the cup like midge podge or can you just was it
Cheryl Spangenberg says
I do not Kathy. I use permanant vinyl, make sure I clean the surface well before application and I hand wash these mugs.
