Football Rice Krispie Treats
Warning: This post is filled with cheesy football related comparisons and puns. I apologize in advance, I just can’t seem to help myself!
Are you ready for some football??? {Sang to the tune of that commercial…you know…the football one!) In getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday, I already shared my Painted NFL Serving Dishes and then shared two fabulous game day appetizers, Sausage & Cheese Wonton Cups and Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus Spirals.
Both sure to please your hungry crowds and show everyone you can deviate from the chips and dip for game day! Today I am here to appease to your sweet tooth…and maybe to the kids in your life…or even the kids at heart!
Football Rice Krispie Treats Tips
After I mixed up the treats, I let the mixture cool for about 1.5 hours. Then, I used some vinyl kitchen gloves to help me form the football shapes! The gloves kept my hands clean and the marshmallow didn’t stick nearly as badly!
Start by rolling a compact ball of the Krispy mixture, a bit larger than a golf ball. I then set the rice balls on a piece of parchment paper and pressed the balls flat. Next, pinch the edges to form the points of the football and then just shaped them to my liking!
If the mixture is too warm it is incredibly hard to mold them. You can also add some butter to your fingertips (in addition to the gloves) if you are having sticking issues.
I then used a small plastic sandwich bag and inserted my smallest round icing tip, filled with a few spoons fulls of regular store-bought vanilla icing and I then carefully piped on the details and laces.
The whole time I was adding the icing I kept thinking of the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective where the mom kept saying “Laces Out!” Since the treats are pretty uneven, don’t be upset if your details and laces are uneven also. The icing lays where it lays and we aren’t dealing with the smoothest of surfaces!

Cheryl Spangenberg says
Hi Neda! I stored mine in an airtight container on the counter! No need to refrigerate!

Is it possible to “mold” the treats after they are totally cool? I keep thinking the 1.5 hours should be 1.5 minutes? Was that a typo?
Cheryl Spangenberg says
Nope, not a typo! Cooled actually works better! When they are still hot they kind of “melt” out of shape! They don’t hold their form well at all. When they are cool you just mold them like play-doh and they stay put!
Liz says
Never knew that! Thanks so much
Lena says
Cool by leaving out or in the fridge?
Cheryl Spangenberg says
Just on the counter Lena! Just for the marshmallow to not be so oozy!
Jack says
Do you take the mixture out of pan and put it on the counter ?
Cheryl Spangenberg says
Hi Jack, I left them in the pan just on the counter. You want them to cool so you can touch them without burning yourself but if they are too hot they will not keep their form. Cooling times will vary by location.

Beth Christianson-Melby says
Do you cool them in or out of the pan?
Cheryl Spangenberg says
Beth you don’t actually ever put them in a pan. You just form them into the football shapes when they are warm and let cool as they are.
