Puppy Chow is one of my favorite dessert snacks! There is something about that crunchy cereal coated in a peanut butter & white chocolate mixture and then dusted with powdered sugar treat that just hits the spot!
**This recipe is not suitable for those with a nut allergy**
This Easter Puppy Chow version uses white chocolate vs milk chocolate and adds fun mix-ins that make this snack mix scream Easter! In my recipe we use Pastel Easter M&M candies, mini marshmallows for bunny cotton tails, and of course Easter sprinkles. The Cadbury candy-coated chocolate pieces would also be amazing for this recipe!
What is Puppy Chow?
Puppy Chow is a sweet dessert snack mix that unfortunately got its name because it resembles, well, puppy chow! I swear it tastes amazing, lol! You coat Chex cereal in a melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture and seal that deliciousness in with a powdered sugar coating.
The snack can be adapted for different holidays, seasons, and events with mix-ins such as my Holiday Puppy Chow and Fall Puppy Chow recipes. You might also hear it referred to as Muddie Buddies.
Ingredients & Kitchen Gadgets Needed for Easter Puppy Chow
INGREDIENTS
- Chex Cereal – you can use corn or rice chex cereal. Whichever you prefer. I have used both name brand and store brand and it always turns out great!
- White Chocolate Chips – to keep with the spring, white rabbit theme, we are using white chocolate chips vs the normal semi-sweet chocolate chips. This will make the snack mix appear lighter in color.
- Peanut Butter – I am using creamy peanut butter because that is what I prefer. If you like some crunch, you can certainly use crunchy peanut butter.
- Butter – I prefer salted butter. I know, I know, don’t attack me in the comments, I said what I said, lol.
- Powdered Sugar – did you know you can blend/grind granulated sugar to make powdered sugar? True story. It is easier just to buy it already powdered though in my opinion!
- Mix-ins: Grab a bag of the Easter, pastel M&M candies, you can grab peanut or regular milk chocolate, as well as some mini-marshmallows (cotton tails) and Easter sprinkles either the colors or some that are bunny shapes, whatever you like.
KITCHEN GADGETS
- Microwave Safe Bowl
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Measuring Cups
- Mixing Spoon
- 2 Gallon Ziploc Bags or Large grocery size paper bag
- Serving Bowl
Additional Mix-ins that would be Easter theme related!
- Reese’s mini peanut butter cups
- Cadbury mini eggs candies
- Robin’s Egg malted milk balls
How to Make Easter Puppy Chow
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave until melted. I like to start with 1-2 minutes and then stir well. The mixture will continue to melt when stirred. If needed, microwave again but in 30-second increments only. When the mixture is smooth, you are finished.
*You can also melt over medium heat in a saucepan
In a large bowl or paper grocery bag (yes you read that correctly!) add the Chex cereal and the chocolate & peanut butter mixture. Carefully stir to coat in the bowl or close the top and shake, shake, shake the grocery bag. This is how we made this in Girl Scouts. Clean up is a breeze!
Next, divide the cereal mixture into two Ziploc bags if using the bowl method. Add powdered sugar, seal the bag and shake to coat. If using the paper grocery bag method, simply add the powdered sugar to the same bag and shake again! For both methods, pour the snack mix ont a parchment lined baking sheet and spread into a shallow layer to cool.
Once the snack mix has cooled and set, add in your Easter Mix-ins!
Serve in your favorite bowl! Here are some of my favorites for Easter in my Amazon shop!
This snack mix will keep in an airtight container, at room temperature for up to a week. Any longer and the cereal centers start go to stale. I doubt it will even last that long, it’s so delicious!
Pack these Easter Muddy Buddies into a plastic egg and add them to Easter Baskets! Use it as a dessert on your Easter brunch table or simply enjoy it because it tastes great!

Made this and it is delicious! I didn’t have any Easter colored candies or powdered sugar…. So I improvised and it turned out so cool! I put gran. Sugar and colored sanding sugar in a coffee grinder to powder it and make Easter colors. I did each ziploc bag a different color using about 1/2 cup of powdered mixture per bag. I used pink, purple, and mint. It looks so festive and perfect for a dessert charcuterie (hosting a bunny party for my daughter’s 2nd birthday this weekend). Thanks for the awesome inspiration and for a great recipe!
