Fabric Carrot Treat Bags

What’s up, Doc? Yep, I went there! Moving onto these adorable Fabric Carrot Treat Bags that make for great additions to Easter baskets or to fill with Easter treats for special people in your life !

I have been really inclined to do sewing projects recently with the new addition of my sewing machine!  To be honest the idea of sewing used to scare the crap out of me.  I had used my mom’s sewing machine before.  It is old.  very old. {I am also using the term “used” very loosely here} 

I found the exact same one at a garage sale, was told it worked, and bought it, but it didn’t work.  I borrowed my mom’s again a few times and had problem after problem.  I threw in the towel and deemed myself a “no sew” kind of gal. 

Then I got a brand new sewing machine for Christmas.  A few times playing on it I was hooked!  Things worked like they were supposed to.  Everything threaded and looped and stitched and moved just like it was made to do!  I am born again!  I have changed my “no-sew” attitude into “I will pretend I can sew even though I really don’t know how to but I will make it happen because darn it…it. will. not. beat. me.” attitude.  With that being said, all you novice sewists  {sewers sounded smelly!} out there, don’t make fun of me for not knowing all the right jargon or techniques.  I will learn.  Eventually.

OK so let’s do this!  I am looking forward to filling these with Easter treats for my boys and other littles in my life.  I heart them!

Supplies Needed for Fabric Carrot Bags:

• Orange Fabric (I used broadcloth, burlap and fleece)
• Orange thread
• Green ribbon.
• Green elastic cord
• Scissors
• Free printable carrot pattern

How to Make Fabric Carrot Treat Bags

Start by printing off the pattern and cutting it out.  Trace the pattern onto your fabric and cut two carrot shapes out.  Cut (10) 4 inch strips of ribbon.

1.  Lay a carrot piece with the good side facing up in front of you and line up the top edge of the carrot shape with the flat edges of 5 strips of the ribbon (spaced evenly and ribbons laying on top of the pattern piece).  Sew a straight stitch across the top.  Repeat for the second carrot piece and the remaining 5 ribbon strips.

2.  Turn the piece over (back side facing up now) fold the straight edge over about 1/2 inch and sew a straight stitch along the very bottom of the fold.  This will create a top loop/pocket that you will thread your cord through.  Repeat on the second carrot piece.  {Make sure ribbons are pointing up and away from the carrot piece before you sew this stitch.

3.  Turn both right sides into one another and sew a stitch around the carrot shape leaving 1/4 inch allowance.  Be sure to start and end UNDER/BEFORE the loop/pocket you just made.  If you sew these parts together you won’t be able to thread your elastic cord.

4.  Turn the sewn carrot inside out.

5.  Thread elastic cording through the top loops.

When you get through one side of the carrot, just continue on to the next.

6.  Fill with goodies and tie closed!
