I know, I know everyone else is already posting about Valentine’s Day. But I have a few more winter posts I want to share before the red and pink make their appearance here! Today I am sharing a cute winter snowball wreath that you can make from items at the dollar store!
Why not decorate for winter? We skip straight from Christmas to Valentine’s day and a whole bunch happens in between the two! Snow, Super Bowl, Mardi Gras…so I am making a cute winter wreath to celebrate the first thing listed…Snow!
Supplies Needed:
- 10” styro-foam wreath form
- styro-foam balls (4 pkgs large, 4 pkgs small) {found at dollar tree}
- hot glue and glue gun
- Optional embellishments of felt, embroidery floss, ribbon, small wooden plaque, chalkboard paint, chalk and small dowel rod.
Note: I picked up my wreath form at Hobby Lobby and all the Styro-foam balls at the Dollar Tree. They were in the aisle with all the children’s craft supplies. This is a HUGE find and money saver because Styro-foam is expensive! I used my 40% off coupon for the form at HL. The embellishment supplies I already had on hand.
This is the best tutorial ever…ready for the instructions??? Glue the Styro-foam balls onto the wreath form! Bam! Done! Seriously…not even joking!
Then for the embellishments I had a small wooden plaque that I painted in chalkboard paint and wrote the words “Let it Snow’ in chalk when it was dry. I hot glued this to a small dowel rod to use as a sign. I needed something to “hold” the sign so I simply cut mittens from blue felt and used embroidery floss to give the mittens some details! Note: I double up the felt when I detail with embroidery floss because the floss seems to pull the felt when you only use one layer.
I hot glued all the embellishments on the wreath and tied the wreath up with some ribbon to hang!
I think this is a super cute way to celebrate the winter months! We have to live through it to get to Spring so we might as well embrace it and make cute decorations right? I will admit though…if I still lived in Minnesota I would not have made this wreath because when you live there…you are sick of all the snow :) But that is just a personal note and now I live in St. Louis where snow comes, we enjoy it, it melts and the next day we are wearing shorts because it’s 70 degrees ;-)

I totally agree with you about not skipping from Christmas to Valentine’s Day. I also didn’t know that the Dollar Tree sold Styrofoam balls; I needed some for a wreath I made last year and bought them at Wal-mart and I thought they were on the expensive side. Thanks for sharing that useful tidbit! The wreath is very cute, especially the mittens!

I love your snowball wreath! An empty door after Christmas looks so forlorn. This is a cute idea.
