How to Make Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats
Start out like any rice krispie cereal treat recipe. You can melt butter in the microwave using a microwave safe bowl or over low heat in a large saucepan, on the stovetop. Then add the mini marshmallows and continue to melt until they are smooth and combined.
Add the orange food coloring at this step, trust me, it is easiest to stir into the marshmallow mixture without the cereal added. If you would like to flavor the treats, you can do that now. Check out these basketball rice krispie treats for how to easily flavor and color the treats.
Fold in the rice krispie cereal until well mixed.
Allow to cool to the touch, then roll into balls and add a tootsie roll stem and a green M&M leaf. You now have cute pumpkin rice krispies.

Notes for Pumpkin Treats
- Use what you have! No orange food coloring? Mix red and yellow!
- Get creative, use tootsie rolls, pretzel nubs, and pretzel sticks for the stems
- Cooking spray or butter helps roll the balls easily. Food-safe gloves may also be worn so the orange doesn’t transfer to your hands and you look like an oompa loompa!
- Speed up cooling by placing on a parchment paper lined baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- These will be stored in an air-tight container for up to a week on your countertop.
