How to Make Tassel Earrings
Time needed: 15 minutes
Use thread, an earring hook, jump rings, and a ruler and scissors to whip up an adorable pair of tassel earrings in your color of choice!
- Prepare the Embroidery Floss
Measure out 25 strands of embroidery floss and cut them into 6-inch lengths.
- Separate into 2
Use scissors to cut the embroidery thread bundle in half to make 2 bundles of strands, one for each earring.
- Add Jump Ring
Slide a jump ring onto the center of your strand bundles of embroidery thread.
- Create the Tassel
Cut a 9-inch length of embroidery floss per earring. Fold down the sides of the embroidery thread bundles and wrap the 9-inch strand, towards the jump ring, and tie it into a tight double knot.
- Wrap the Earring
Continue to wrap the loose ends of that thread around several more times and tie off in a double knot and trim any excess tails. Note to tie the tight knot in the “back” of the earring.
- Repeat
Repeat steps 4-5 for the second earring.
- Trim the threads on the earrings
Use the pointy end of the thread ripper to comb out the embroidery floss into single threads. Trim the bottom edge of any longer threads.
- Attach earring hooks
Use the seam ripper to separate the individual threads of the embroidery floss for a fuller fringe look. Using needle-nose pliers, attach the earring hooks to the jump rings by carefully opening the loop ring on the bottom loop of the earring hook and sliding it around the loop ring of the tassel earring. Close the open hook.
- Wear!

I think those are going to be hotter than a Southern biscuit on July 4th! Not real crazy about yellow, I will check my stash for aqua, my needlepoint coral, and pink floss and probably buy more. AND SPEAKING OF July 4th, how about red, white, and blue? Orange and black for Halloween, red and green for Christmas? My needlepoint threads will yield gold and silver metallics, O-MY! Guess I’d better get more earring findings, too!
