I think it’s safe to say that if you have ever had to remove wallpaper you might agree it is one of the worst home improvement jobs there is! What’s even worse is that by the time you try all the different “sure fire removal” methods you are normally high or smell like a giant dyed Easter egg! Today I thank HomeRight for bringing you this post to share this easy way to Remove Wallpaper without Chemicals using the HOMERIGHT Steam machine multi-purpose power steamer.
I mentioned before when I shared my tutorial for building this DIY Cubby System (painted with Homeright Finish Max Sprayer) how much I despised the ugly border that extended around my ENTIRE finished basement!
Right? The teal/green-ish combination of leaves and nuts? What? And of course it goes ALL. THE. WAY. AROUND. THE. WHOLE. BASEMENT. I was less than thrilled to tackle this border. To make the basement décor issue even worse, my husband’s office had wallpaper up half the wall and another stellar border. Hello Trojan Horses!
You are all so stinking jealous of me right now aren’t you? Go ahead, be jealous! Well my husband pretty much hated this and in one of his insomnia ridden nights, he went downstairs and started tearing off the wallpaper. Here are the problems with this:
1. He didn’t finish
2. He only tore off the printed paper…he didn’t actually remove any of the glue or paper backing.
So now that baby #3 is on the way we are playing room-changeroo and now his office will need to also be our guest room. So I am left with the job of finishing what he started. The fun nut and leaf border has been put on hold and I have been assigned the office to tackle.
The HOMERIGHT Steam Machine made my job so much easier! (Don’t tell my husband this though…I want him to think it was a grueling job finishing his mess! {wink})
The steamer comes with tons of attachments and if I were tell you I just used it to remove the wallpaper I’d be a big fat liar! I LOVE IT! But keeping on task…I found wallpaper steamer attachment and there are a few screws and a steam diffuser to attach and I did that and then I fired that baby up.
I steamed the wallpaper for about 10-15 seconds and then I used a flat scraper to literally just push the gluey-back paper right off the wall. It came off in a giant sheet with only a few little stragglers that I just wiped off with a damp cloth! AMAZING!
When I got the the part of the room that still had the printed paper on it, I just scored it with a wallpaper remover scorer thingy ma jig and then steamed and had the same awesome results. I had to steam a bit longer than before but only by like 5 or 10 seconds and then it peeled off in no time!
I am so grateful that my work time was cut in more than half and that I didn’t have to feel like I was swimming in chemical vapors (baby appreciated this as well!) I might not ever use anything else to remove paper! This made room-changeroo so much less daunting and more manageable!
I’d invite you to check out HOMERIGHT on their website as well as their social media sites! I love both my sprayer and my steamer and I would of course only recommend companies and products to you that I adore!
Here is also a great video showing the steamer in action for more than just removing wallpaper!
A big Thank you to HOMERIGHT for providing me the steamer to use and for sponsoring this post. You may read my full disclosure here.

I’m glad you got it all done and that it was pretty easy. I hate removing wallpaper more than I hate ironing which says a lot. Glad the steamer removed it easily!!
