Clay Pot Leprechaun Hats

These adorable clay pot leprechaun hats are a fun little way to display some St. Patrick’s Day decor in your home!  Make one for every member of your family! They are perfect on your mantel or as a table centerpiece!

Did you know that March was not only the month of the Irish but also National Crafting Month?  So to celebrate both, I am showing how easy it is to make these Clay Pot Leprechaun Hats!  This would be a great project to do with the kids and get them involved!

I made these clay pot pumpkins a few years back and I still adore them!  I made one for each member of the family (I still need to add another for Spangenbaby!)

I picked up these pots at my local Dollar Tree!  The larger ones came in a 2 pack and the smaller ones a 3 pack.  It’s like the crafting gods were practically handing them to me!  $2 for 5 clay pots!  Total score!

Supplies Needed for Clay Pot Leprechaun Hats:

• Medium Clay Pots
• Small Clay Pots
• Green Multi-Purpose Acrylic Paint
• Paint brush
• Black Ribbon (I used 3/8” and 1/2”)
• Gold scrapbooking paper or Gold Vinyl
• Hot Glue Gun/Hot glue Sticks
• scissors
• Xacto knife

Like I mentioned above…total score on the clay pots!  First I painted those green.  Tip:  I used spray paint for my pumpkin pots…that was a lot faster, lol!  I didn’t have any Kelly green spray paint on had {gasp, I know} and I wanted to take advantage of nap time so I used what I had.  It took about 3 good coats to get the pots covered.

Then I wrapped with black ribbon towards the bottom of the clay pot.  Since the pot is not a true cylinder, you will have to adjust in the back to get the ribbon to sit properly in the front.  Use hot glue to secure in place.

Next I used my Xacto Knife to cut out the buckles.  I had some gold cardstock left over from this Santa Bin.   I just used that.  I hot glued them in place as well.

There you have a family of clay pot leprechaun hats.

What to use these for you ask?  I like to put them on my mantel.  You could also add pipe cleaners to the holes in the top, create a twisty at the top and use for place card holders or even for food signs if you are having a St. Patrick’s Day themed party!
