I’m 36 weeks tomorrow! 36 WEEKS! Yikes! I keep thinking I have so much time to get stuff done for this baby and in reality I do not. I do not at all. Ryan was born at 38 weeks and I didn’t feel anything with him and this baby I already feel Braxton Hicks contractions! I should probably get moving! Thanks to Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores for sponsoring this post as well as having a fun campaign called The BIG BLING to get me moving! Today I am sharing how easy it was to refinish this thrift store find to create the perfect Chevron Stenciled Side Table for the new baby’s room!
It’s no secret I love patterns! Love, love, love them and this week’s theme for The Big Bling happens to be patterns and textures! Yay for me! I picked up this little side table for $5. A total score. I have been holding onto it for about a year. Finally it gets a makeover. It will be the perfect side table for the rocker in the baby’s new room!
Supplies Needed:
- A side table to refinish!
- Folk Art Chalk Paint in 2 colors
- Folk Art Chevron Stencil
- Stencil Tape
- Martha Stewart Sponge Pouncers
I picked up all my supplies at JoAnn. Folk Art has these great geometric patterned stencils and I went back and forth between this chevron one and a few others but settled on the chevron because 1. I still love the chevron pattern and 2. It would work nicely with the circle top of my table and 3. chevron is one of the patterns in the baby’s room!
I started out by giving the table 2 coats of my white chalk paint. The great thing about this paint is you do not have to sand or prime your piece! Yay! I started with a regular paint brush but quickly changed to a foam brush. Below is after coat #1.
After coat #2 dried, I started with my stencil.
I used some stencil tape to hold the stencil in place. This was necessary because I wanted to keep the pattern straight and it really helped out when I got to the edges of the table top since they were round and I needed the stencil to be half on, half off the table.
Next using my gray chalk paint and a Martha Steward sponge Applicator I got to work!
I worked section by section until the entire top was stenciled!
I now have the perfect little side table for the rocker/glider! Now if only the rocker were not black…but that is a first world problem I should not complain about! LOL!
I love the super matte finish of the chalk paint along with the fun, trendy pattern of the chevron! They pair really well together!
You can also check out how I made that stenciled tissue box cover here! Geometric patterns were one of the Spring Fashion Trends that I totally jumped on board with! I planned ahead and did it in the colors of the nursery! I will also be sharing how to make those curtains behind the chair as well and you may see that lamp shade get a makeover as well! Yay for new baby rooms!

I am not gonna lie, I am not a big fan of chevron – but I love this table. It is so sweet! You have helped me turn the corner on my anti-chevron stance. Thanks girl!
