Firecracker Centerpiece

This festive Firecracker Centerpiece is perfect to add some 4th of July spirit to your home or to your picnic table next month! 

A whole big box of glittery wonderfulness arrived at my door.  I was stoked!  4th of July is one of my favorite holidays!  I also LOVE paper products.  So my day was pretty much made when I sliced open that box and saw what was in side!

Glitter, glitter glue, glitter tape, glitter card stock, glitter puffy letter stickers, glittery paper stars, and some super tacky double sided tape.  I was in love.  After I picked up the glitter corrugated cardstock I new exactly what I wanted to make.  This Firecracker Centerpiece!  Once I got started and was firecracking away another project popped in my mind and I made that one too…stay tuned for that soon!    Let’s get to the Firecracker Project shall we?

Firecracker Centerpiece Supplies Needed:

• American Crafts Glitter Cardstock in red, white & blue
• American Crafts Glitter Tape White
• American Crafts Glitter Tape Blue
• American Crafts Glitter Tape Red
• Dowel Rods
• American Crafts Thickers Foam Letter Stickers
• Curling Ribbon in metallic
• 1 bag of white beans
• 1 glass vase
• hot glue gun/glue sticks
• Scissors
• pen
• ruler

I started out by measuring a 4 x 5 rectangle and cut it out of one of the pieces of card stock.  I then cut a 2.75” diameter circle out of a different pattern of paper.  Hint:  Find a cup that measures close and use that for your circle stencil!

Cut a slit in your circle from one end to the center.

Roll your rectangle piece into a tube and secure with hot glue.  Make a cone with the circle piece by overlapping one side of the cut you just made over the other.  Hot glue the cone on top of the cylinder making your firecracker body.

Cut two 5” pieces of glitter tape in the remaining color.  (So if you used white and blue colored papers for the firecracker, use red for the glitter tape)  Remove the backing on each piece and stick them to one another with the glitter sides facing outwards.

Now cut thin strips up the length of the tape but stop before you reach the top.  Leave about 1/2 inch at the top to hold it together.

Cut a doll rod to length using scissors, apply hot glue and glue firecracker to the doll rod.  Then glue your glitter tape to the doll rod.  Add curling ribbon in coordinating colors to act as the “smoke” from your firecracker being lit!

Repeat using alternating colors and patterns of paper and glitter tape.

Pour a bag of white beans into a glass vase (I got both of these items at my dollar store).  Arrange your firecrackers in the beans and adjust the lengths of the doll rods if needed.  Use some glitter tape on the vase and add the word “Bang” with the puffy thickers and you have yourself the most festive Firecracker Centerpiece there ever was!

Place it on your mantle, dining room table or even your counter!  These would be perfect for your tables at your 4th of July party as well!
